Memory and personalization
What the assistant remembers about you across chats, and how to review, delete or turn it off.
The assistant remembers what matters about you across chats, so you don't have to explain who you are and what you're working on every time. You can see and manage all of it in Settings → Personalization. Memory works on every plan — you just need to be signed in.
Instructions
Two fields: “What should the assistant know about you?” and “How would you like the assistant to respond?”. The assistant follows them in every new chat. If they conflict with a project's instructions, the project's instructions win in that project's chats.
Saved memory
The assistant saves lasting facts on its own — your name, your work, long-term projects, how you like your answers. When it saves something, a “Memory updated” note appears under the reply. You can also ask directly: “remember that…” or “forget that…”.
- One-off task details, the contents of your documents and sensitive information — health, beliefs, finances, passwords — aren't saved unless you explicitly ask.
- You can delete any memory in Settings, or clear memory altogether.
- Deleting a chat doesn't delete what the assistant remembered from it: delete that memory in Settings.
- Up to 60 memories are kept. When memory is full, the assistant will suggest deleting old ones in Settings.
Chat history
Once a day the assistant writes a short summary of your chats from the last 30 days — what you do and what you're working on — and uses it in new conversations. The summary is shown in Settings; you can reset it or turn it off with the “Reference chat history” switch.
- Only your own messages count, not the assistant's replies.
- A deleted chat drops out of the summary right away.
- Health, beliefs, finances and other people's details don't go into the summary.
Where memory works
In regular chats and in agents — agents only read it; saving happens in regular chats. Image and video generation don't use memory.
How to turn it off
Turn off “Memory” and the assistant stops saving new things and stops using saved memory and chat history; your instructions keep working. Nothing is deleted: turn memory back on and it all comes back. To delete everything, click “Clear memory”.
